Going Green

How we “Go Green”

“Going green” is more than just a bandwagon idea…it’s a movement that is changing the face of business. Here at Allied, we’re making strides to change the rules of the road by:

  1. Aligning with vendors that are thinking about the big picture.
  2. Offering environmentally-friendly products and services.
  3. Consulting with our customers to help them achieve optimal efficiencies.
  4. Implementing Best Recycling Initiatives at our retread plant.

Vendors

Implementing sustainability initiatives isn’t something that can happen over night, but one simple step you can make is to align with vendors that are also thinking about the big picture. Some companies we have aligned with that have noteworthy sustainability initiatives include:

  • Michelin: Commitment to Sustainable Practices – sustainable farming and production, recycling, eco-friendly products
  • Shell: biodiversity, regulating CO2 emissions and spill prevention
  • BioBlend: bio-based lubricant manufacturer
  • Safety-Kleen: eco-friendly oil and cleaning products manufacturer
  • Airgas: Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) supplier

Best Recycling Initiatives – MRT Plant

Even in manufacturing we can make sustainable choices by examining processes that can reduce energy and waste, and at Allied, we are working to lead by example. Below is a list of sustainable practices we have implemented at our MRT plant (retread plant).

  • The crumb rubber removed from the tire during the retread process is recycled and reused in products such as rubber floor mats, mulch, playgrounds and asphalt.
  • The adhesives are cementless, and the plant doesn’t use solvents (eliminating VOC emissions).
  • Biodegradable powder is used for the wheels.
  • The steel shot (used to clean rusty wheels) is reused to make steel pipe.
  • All oil used by the plant is recycled.
  • All of the fork lift truck batteries are recycled.
  • The plant’s chambers, or curing molds, use steam rather than electricity. This is a closed-loop system, so the hot water is recycled.
  • Hot water from the boiler is used to heat the equipment.
  • All of the plant lighting is low energy.
  • All the steel buffing blades from the buffing machine are recycled.
  • Clear wall panels were installed in the new addition to utilize natural lighting and minimize electricity usage during the day.
  • The plant production floor does not require heat in the winter as the equipment produces enough heat for the plant to stay warm.
